Delete Your Account
Last updated: 2026-08-28
At NearbyLove, we respect your right to control your personal data. You can delete your account from inside the app, or by writing to us. Deletion happens at once. This page explains exactly what is removed, and the small number of safety and legal records that are kept.
1. How to Delete Your Account
Follow these steps to delete your account from within the app:
- Open the NearbyLove app on your device.
- Go to Settings (tap the gear icon on your profile page).
- Scroll down and tap "Delete Account".
- Confirm your decision when prompted.
- Your account is deleted at once, along with your profile, photos, voice recordings, messages, matches and stored locations. A small number of safety records are kept, and section 3 says exactly which and why.
2. What Data Will Be Deleted
When you delete your account, the following is removed from our servers straight away. There is no waiting period, no grace period, and no way to get any of it back:
- Profile information - name, bio, age, gender, preferences, and all personal details.
- Photos: every profile photo that was published. An image our screening held back or refused is not deleted: see section 3.
- Voice recordings - voice intros and voice messages.
- Messages - all chat conversations and message history.
- Matches and requests - all match requests, connections, and related data.
- Location data - all stored location information.
- Account credentials - your authentication data and session tokens.
3. What Is Kept, and Why
Some records exist for safety or because the law requires them, and they stay after the account is gone. None of it is visible to other users, and none of it is used to build a profile of you.
- That an age declaration was made: if you ever entered a date of birth that made you under 18, we keep the fact that it happened and the age it worked out to. It is kept so that a refused declaration stays on the record and cannot be edited away from inside the account, and so that we can show what we did if we are asked. The date you typed is never stored, only the age.
- Photo screening decisions: the record of what our screening decided about images you uploaded. An image that was held back or refused stays in a private area that only we can see. Material identified as unlawful is kept rather than destroyed, because it may have to be handed to the authorities.
- Reports other people made about you: these are kept. Reports you made about other people are deleted with your account.
- Appeals: if you appealed against a suspension, the appeal and how it was decided are kept.
- Safety answers: the answer you give after a Safe Date, about how it went, is deleted with your account. What is not deleted is the answer another person gave after their own session. That answer belongs to their record, it does not name you, and it is never shown to anybody in the App.
- Messages you sent to our support address: these are kept so we have a record of what was asked and answered. The link to your account is removed, but the name, email address and text you wrote stay in the message.
If you want to know what is held about you under any of these headings, ask through the contact form on this site.
4. Important Information
- This action is irreversible. Once your account is deleted, it cannot be recovered.
- If you only want to take a break, consider deactivating your radar instead of deleting your account.
