Getting started
When can I download NearbyLove?
NearbyLove is in its last round of testing on Google Play. When it opens to everyone, the download buttons on this site will take you straight there.
Is it available in my country?
We open country by country. If sign-up isn't open where you live yet, the app tells you when you try, and you can ask us to open there or help bring NearbyLove to your city.
Which phones does it work on?
Android phones with Android 7.0 or later.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not yet. It's planned after the Android version.
Does it cost anything?
Downloading and using NearbyLove is free, and every safety tool is free on every plan. A few limits, like how far the radar reaches, are higher on Plus and Premium.
What do founding members get?
Everyone who joins before paid plans open is a founding member, with a permanent badge on their profile that other people can see, and 2 months of Plus as a gift, counted from the day paid plans open. A friend who joins with your invite link gets the same 2 months. For every friend who completes a profile with a photo and stays active for 3 days, you get a month of Premium, with a bonus month at the 3rd friend and 2 more at the 7th, up to a year in total. Months you earn before paid plans open start on that day too. You'll see it on your Invite Friends screen.
Account and profile
How do I sign in?
With your Google account. On Android, it's the only way in.
Who can use NearbyLove?
Adults aged 18 and over only. Your date of birth is checked when you sign up.
What do I need before I can use the radar?
A completed profile with at least one photo. Your photos are checked before anyone can see them.
Which languages does the app speak?
20 languages. The app follows your phone's language, and you can change it in the settings.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Yes. Ask for it in Settings, and a copy is sent to your email address.
How do I delete my account?
In Settings, under Delete Account. It happens right away. What's deleted and what's kept is set out in full on the account deletion page.
Will you send me marketing messages?
Only if you agreed to receive them. You can switch them off at any time in Settings, under Notifications.
Meeting people
Why do I sometimes see nobody nearby?
The radar only shows people searching right now, within the distance you chose. At quiet times, widen the distance or try again a little later.
What's the difference between the radar and Spark Mode?
With the radar you look at who's around. Spark Mode works for you: when someone who fits you passes very close, both phones get an alert, even if you weren't looking at the screen.
What is radar night?
Radar night is every Thursday from 21:00 to 23:00, in your own local time: everybody turns on the radar at the same time, so there are more people to find at once. It happens in every country where NearbyLove is open, and it's free. If your radar is off, the app reminds you 15 minutes before. You can turn off just that reminder in the app's Settings, under "Notifications I want", or in your phone's notification settings.
What is the question of the day?
Every day the app asks everybody the same light question, with four answers to choose from and none of them wrong. The questions rotate through seven themes: love, everyday life, values, imagination, going out, home and food, and travel. Answering is optional, earlier questions can be answered any time, and you can change an answer. Once you've answered, and at least 5 people have, you see how everybody answered. It's free for everybody.
Who sees my answers?
Anyone who can see your profile, under "What I think about...". Answers are chosen, never typed, so each person reads them in their own language, and on someone else's profile you see how many of your answers match. No question asks about religion, politics, health, sexual orientation or ethnicity, or about where you work or live.
What is "People who answered like me"?
After you answer today's question, one tap shows the people who chose the same answer today. They're matched both ways, like on the radar: the gender and ages each of you is looking for, in the same country, the most alike first. If nobody has chosen the same answer yet, it shows the people most alike across all the questions. A tap opens a profile, where you can send a request. It's free for everybody.
Where should we meet?
Somewhere public, especially the first time. It's your choice and your responsibility. In IT'S A DATE!, people browsing see the meeting area, so pick a place you're happy for others to see.
In Blind Date, when do photos appear?
While browsing, photos are hidden for whoever has Blind Date Mode on. After a match they stay hidden only if you both had it on, and then each of you reveals your own photo when you're ready.
Are calls recorded?
No. Voice and video calls are for matches only, and they're never recorded.
Safety and privacy
Do you verify the people on NearbyLove?
No. We don't check anyone's identity or background. We screen photos and act on reports, but treat every profile as someone you haven't met yet. Who you meet is your decision.
Can someone find out where I live?
Others see a rounded distance to a fixed point, up to about 177 metres from where you really are, never your exact location.
What happens when I block someone?
You stop appearing to each other anywhere you could meet in the app, and no request, message or call can pass between you. They're never told. They lose your conversation, while you keep it, in case you want to report.
What happens after I report someone?
Your report goes to our moderation team. Reports that someone looks under 18 are handled first, and three such reports from different people within 90 days suspend the account at once.
Is Safe Date an emergency service?
No. Your guardian is a person you chose, and the alerts go to them, not to the police. If you're in danger, call your local emergency number first.
Plans
What's the difference between Free, Plus and Premium?
Three limits change: how far the radar reaches (Free 1 km, Plus 2 km, Premium 4 km), how many voice intros you can hear (Free 15 a day, Plus 50 a day, Premium no limit) and how many VibeSwipe sessions you get (Free 1 a week, Plus 3 a week, Premium no limit). Everything else, including every safety tool, is the same on every plan.
Can I buy Plus or Premium?
Not yet. Paid plans open later, and nothing in the app costs money today. Everyone who joins before then gets 2 months of Plus as a gift, counted from the day they open.
